Back pain can affect people of any age, for a variety of reasons. As people age, the probability of lower back pain increases due to factors such as the person&#8217;s previous occupation, i.e. the nature of the work the person was engaged in and degenerative disc diseases.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>What are the causes?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>The spine is made up of a complex structure of muscles, ligaments, tendons, discs and bones, which together support the body and enable us to move. <\/p>\n\n<p>The segments of the spine are lined with cartilage-like pads called discs. <\/p>\n\n<p>Problems with any of these components can lead to back pain. <\/p>\n\n<p>Damage can, among other things, occur due to stress, health conditions or poor posture.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/kucneposjete.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/ledja.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2049\" width=\"584\" height=\"584\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kucneposjete.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/ledja.jpg 779w, https:\/\/kucneposjete.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/ledja-300x300.jpg 300w, https:\/\/kucneposjete.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/ledja-150x150.jpg 150w, https:\/\/kucneposjete.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/ledja-768x768.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 584px) 100vw, 584px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<p><strong>1. Strain<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>The causes of back pain are:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>strained muscles or ligaments<\/li><li>muscle spasm<\/li><li>muscle tension<\/li><li>damaged discs<\/li><li>injuries, fractures or falls<\/li><\/ul>\n\n<p>Activities that can lead to strains or cramps include: lifting something improperly, lifting something too heavy, or making sudden and uncomfortable motion.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1016\" height=\"677\" src=\"http:\/\/kucneposjete.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/simptomi.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2051\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kucneposjete.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/simptomi.jpg 1016w, https:\/\/kucneposjete.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/simptomi-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/kucneposjete.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/simptomi-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1016px) 100vw, 1016px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p><strong>2. Health condition<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>Several structural problems can also result in back pain.<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Ruptured discs:<\/strong> Each vertebra in the spine is lined with discs. If the disc ruptures, there will be increased pressure on the nerve, resulting in back pain.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Bulging discs:<\/strong> In much the same way as ruptured discs, a bulging disc can result in more pressure on the nerve.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u00a0Sciatica:<\/strong> A sharp, stabbing pain through the buttock and down the back of the leg, caused by a bulging or herniated disc pressing on a nerve.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>\u00a0Arthritis:<\/strong> Arthritis can cause joint problems in the hips, lower back and elsewhere<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Abnormal curvature of the spine:<\/strong> If the spine curves in an unusual way, back pain can occur. An example is scoliosis, in which the spine bends to the side.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Osteoporosis:<\/strong> Bones, including the vertebrae of the spine, become brittle and porous, making compression fractures more likely.<\/span><\/li><li><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>Kidney problems:<\/strong> Kidney stones or kidney infection can cause back pain.<\/span><\/li><\/ul>\n\n<p><strong>\u00a03. Position and posture<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>Taking a very slouched sitting position while using a computer can result in increased back and shoulder problems over time. <\/p>\n\n<p>Back pain can also be the result of some daily activities or poor posture.<\/p>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"592\" src=\"http:\/\/kucneposjete.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/pravilno-drzanje-1-1024x592.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2052\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kucneposjete.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/pravilno-drzanje-1-1024x592.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/kucneposjete.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/pravilno-drzanje-1-300x173.jpg 300w, https:\/\/kucneposjete.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/pravilno-drzanje-1-768x444.jpg 768w, https:\/\/kucneposjete.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/pravilno-drzanje-1.jpg 1379w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p><strong>Risk factors<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>The following factors are associated with a higher risk of developing back pain:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>occupations<\/li><li>pregnancy<\/li><li>sedentary lifestyle<\/li><li>poor physical condition<\/li><li>old age<\/li><li>obesity and excess weight<\/li><li>smoking<\/li><li>strenuous physical exercises, especially if done incorrectly<\/li><li>genetic factors<\/li><li>medical conditions, such as arthritis and cancer<\/li><\/ul>\n\n<p>Pain in the lower part occurs more often in women than in men, likely due to hormonal factors. Stress, anxiety and mood disorders are also linked to back pain.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Symptoms<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>The main symptom of the condition is pain anywhere in the back, sometimes reaching all the way down to the buttocks and legs.<\/p>\n\n<p>Some back issues can cause pain in other parts of the body, depending on the affected nerves.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>When to see a doctor?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>You should seek medical attention if you experience numbness or tingling, or if you have back pain:<\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>that do not improve with rest<\/li><li>after an injury or fall<\/li><li>paired with numbness in the legs<\/li><li>paired with weakness<\/li><li>paired with a fever<\/li><li>paired with unexplained weight loss<\/li><\/ul>\n\n<p><strong>How to know if the pain is chronic or acute?<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Acute pain starts suddenly and lasts up to 6 weeks.<\/li><li>Chronic or long-term pain develops over a long period of time, lasts over 3 months and causes permanent problems.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"719\" src=\"http:\/\/kucneposjete.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/bolovi-1024x719.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2053\" srcset=\"https:\/\/kucneposjete.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/bolovi-1024x719.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/kucneposjete.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/bolovi-300x211.jpg 300w, https:\/\/kucneposjete.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/bolovi-768x540.jpg 768w, https:\/\/kucneposjete.hr\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/07\/bolovi.jpg 1217w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Treatment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>Back pain usually resolves with rest and home remedies, but sometimes medical treatment is necessary.<\/p>\n\n<p><strong>Home treatments<\/strong><\/p>\n\n<p>Over-the-counter (OTC) pain relievers, usually nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), such as ibuprofen, diclofenac, or ketoprofen, can relieve discomfort.
